Shipshape Data operates as an AI consultancy located in London. We build the data foundations needed for AI and subsequently develop the AI systems. Our services comprise strategy, development, and ongoing delivery after the initial launch. Our work rests on the principle that a correct data core enables trustworthy systems. If the data core is flawed, the systems built on it will be ineffective.
Background and history
Our initial product was Enterprise Chat. The tool let users query their data and obtain answers. Our main aim was to guarantee reliable output. Creating the interface proved to be a straightforward process.
As the company expanded, we repeatedly faced the same issue. Client data was disorganised, causing AI projects to fail when moving to production. Each AI project essentially became a data management project.
The AI yielded incorrect results when the underlying data was fragmented or missing clear definitions and governance. When the same model operated on organised and accurate data, it delivered useful results. The quality of the data foundation was the key factor determining the project's success.
We modified our work sequence. We no longer start with the use case. Instead, we concentrate on the core components by preparing the data for AI use and constructing a secure connection layer. We then deliver the specific capabilities. This arrangement explains why the foundation stays the central part of our process.
The model
The core
The data infrastructure includes a cloud data warehouse, medallion architecture, and a semantic layer.
The connective layer
Connectivity, governance, and business logic are considered. This includes protocols such as MCP that enable models to access governed data while retaining control over that data.
The outer ring
AI capabilities comprise search and retrieval, document intelligence, classification, forecasting, conversational platforms, and workflow automation and agents.
What we build
