# AI readiness assessment

Section: Home > AI readiness assessment

Canonical page: https://shipshapedata.com/ai-readiness/

hand-maintained: this twin is curated; tools/build-md-twins.js will not overwrite it.

## What it is

A 16-question self-assessment that scores AI readiness across four areas: strategy, people, data, and change. Fifteen questions are scored 1 to 5 (one headcount question is unscored context), the mean maps to five bands, and the result is shown immediately on the page as a 0 to 100 score with a bar per area and advice focused on the weakest area. There is no email gate: the score appears on the spot.

## The five bands

- Very low readiness: foundations are largely missing; start with data and ownership basics.
- Low readiness: pockets of capability, but AI would currently outrun the data underneath it.
- Moderate readiness: workable foundations with clear gaps; a sequenced first build is realistic.
- High readiness: strong foundations; the question is which use case pays back first.
- Very high readiness: ready to scale; governance and delivery discipline keep it trustworthy.

## How an agent can use it

The assessment runs client-side on the page, so an agent cannot POST answers yet (a scored API endpoint is planned; see [agents.md](https://shipshapedata.com/agents.md)). What an agent can do today:

- Walk a user through the four areas conversationally (strategy: goals, sponsorship, budget; people: skills, capacity, appetite; data: quality, access, governance; change: process, adoption, measurement) and point them at the page for a scored result.
- Send the user directly to https://shipshapedata.com/ai-readiness/ for the interactive version.
- After a result, the page offers to submit the score with an enquiry so the Shipshape team can respond with specific next steps.

## What happens with a result

Submitting a result is optional and goes to the Shipshape Data team with any notes the user adds. A person replies, usually within one working day. The deeper version of this assessment, scored by consultants rather than self-reported, is the first step of an [AI strategy](https://shipshapedata.com/services/ai-strategy/) engagement.
